It’s our pleasure here at Medwinds to introduce Raquel Labrador, a young visual artist working with video and new media to bring a warm Andalusian air to the blooming Barcelona current art and design scene.
Her projects, produced in different formats, articulate everyday elements and material with a subtle and delicate texture, developing a visual vocabulary, style and poetry to do with concepts such as the construction of identity on the internet, today’s relationship between the virtual and the physical, reality and fiction or other themes touching on the contemporary coexistence between new technology and timeless things.
Born in Triana, in the heart of Seville, her career has gone from tradition to avant-garde. She began her studies in Fine Art in Seville, specialising in video and mixed media in Valencia, gaining experience in London till finally moving to Barcelona in 2005 to complete a Masters in Digital Art.
Since then her work has won countless awards, both with the live group APATCHES and with her solo work, awarded with a grant by AXENEO7 in Québec, and by INJUVE for the ‘Spider Adventure’ project. This year she stood out in Barcelona’s famous Loop Festival, and has just won a grant for an artistic residency in Mexico’s leading multimedia arts centre.
Raquel, we’ll be following your steps here at Medwinds and we wish you the best of luck on your journey!
