Deep in Santorini

The locals tell the tale that the Gods of Olympus wanted to do something nice for the mortals of the area. They met with Neptune, and after hours of confrontation, they couldn’t reach an agreement on letting the enviable island to emerge from the deep, whimsical waters where the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea merge. They argued, sparks flew, thunder and lightning struck and to top it all, a volcano erupted.  As nature would have it, from the remains of that eruption, a slice of life emerged and developed over the years to become a beautiful unique island:  Santorini.

And what a place to lose yourself in… Call it a small jewel, call it a dream island, call it what you will, but whatever you do, live it at least once in your lifetime.  Here is one good opportunity we would like to share with you from this month’s agenda at Medwinds.  One where the silkiest sounds of electronic dance music and the summer breeze go hand in hand:  The first edition of Deep In Santorini.

Organised by Lovezone the festival will take place on the 22^nd and 23^rd of July. Its appeal lies not only in the delightful surroundings but in the line-up of top class artists such as Terry Lee Brown Jr. (highly acclaimed for his selected mixes “Terry’s Café”), Ion, Roberto Rodríguez (don’t be deceived by the name, he’s not the one from the ketchup-filled movies, he comes all the way from Finland) or Ocean Gaya. Two days of brilliant but elegant electronica. Good tasting, grease-free house.  The timetable is also worth taking note of: From 8pm till 3am. Plenty of time in between to change out of our luxury afternoon, beach or sunrise attire to become geniuses on the dance floor.  The exact place on the island to undertake that transformation is the Kamari Open Air Cinema.Santorini, so far away from everything and yet so close to pleasure.  And this time the music gives us a good excuse.
